The Giraffe neighbourhood offers reading experiences

Oct 26, 2021 | Media

Reading a good book is not only entertaining. Research also shows that reading promotes knowledge, language development, imagination and mental health. That's why Kvarteret Giraffen is opening a Bokeria in collaboration with Kalmar City Library, where all Kalmar residents can borrow, exchange or keep reading experiences.

- The library is free and open to all, and you don't need a library card to bring in a book or put down one you've already read. For us, it's a way to offer our visitors something extra, by inviting them to read in the neighbourhood, on the bus or at home on the sofa. You can also pass on a reading experience to someone you don't know, and it will be fun to see what books the people of Kalmar recommend to each other," says Martina Adolfsson Nyström, Centre Manager at Kvarteret Giraffen.

The Bokerian's selection includes fiction, books aimed at children and young people, and non-fiction, selected by Kalmar City Library.

- It is nice that Kalmar will have another meeting place where reading is encouraged. Our hope is that the literature will be more accessible and can lead to interesting meetings and conversations at Bokerian. It is also a climate-smart way to encourage more people to read the same book," says Christina Johansson, Library Manager at Kalmar City Library.

The neighbourhood's Bokeria is located at the gift card kiosk outside ICA Maxi's front shop, and is completely free of charge for all visitors.
